SYDNEY DONATES HER
BIRTHDAY GIFTS

Wags and purrs to Sydney T! This young lady asked her friends NOT to bring her gifts for her 6th birthday, but to bring gifts for the shelter animals instead. The animals were excited to meet her and enjoy the toys, treats and collars she brought them. Way to go, Sydney!

GIRL SCOUT TROUP
DONATES COZY BLANKETS

A big "paws up" thank you to Monica F. from Girl Scout Troop #3035 for these wonderfully cozy blankets!  Monica saved her allowance to purchase the fabric and also learned to sew just for this project.  Boo Boo the cat is happily "modeling" her blanket and is enjoying the softness of the fleece.  Thank you, Monica, for thinking of our animals, and they thank you for the soft beds.  Great job!

EXCITING EAGLE SCOUT
PROJECT A BIG HIT AT
TRAILS FOR TAILS

John Richey, Troop 30, constructed a portable enclosure for dogs for his Eagle Scout project.  The project was a huge hit at the Trails for Tails event for the important role it playing in our "Race the Wind" game.  Dog were held at one end of the enclosure and released to race to their owner while being "clocked" by a radar gun.  John's project made this possible and safe--we could not have done it without his hard work.  Here's what John had to say about his scout troop:
“My Eagle project was for the St. Charles Humane Society. I built portable enclosures for dogs, built in panels of PVC and safety fencing, and attached with zipties.
My troop is located in St. Peters at Fairmont Elementary.  We have had many other successful Eagle projects and subsequent Eagle Scouts.  Troop 30 has had a 25 year tradition of excellence in producing Eagle Scouts, and will hopefully remain so for years to come”.

Great job, John!  Your project kept dogs safe while they had fun, and the shelter raised money to help our animals!  The humans and animals thank you!

FOR THE LOVE
OF THE ANIMALS

kids birthday gifts

Some people have birthday parties, others have fundraisers. These animal-lovers had their friends bring gifts for the shelter residents instead of receiving presents themselves. The future of animal welfare is in the hands of these kids, and we sure are glad about that!

TROY DONATES HIS
BIRTHDAY GIGTS

Wags and purrs to Troy E. for asking for gifts for shelter animals instead of himself for his 10th birthday!  He and brother Brendan carried in all the goodies you see including toys, food, treats, collars, leashes and more!  Great job!

BEDS AND POSTERS FOR
THE SHELTER

A big “paws up” salute to Mrs. Young’s 4th grade class at Westhoff Elementary! The kids were inspired by an article in the Kind News to make beds for the shelter animals. They created many beds and also made some wonderful posters about puppy mills that we have displayed in the shelter. Jada the cat enjoys on of the beds—purrfect for a catnap!

KID
NEWS

The KIND News is a classroom newspaper for kids grades K though 12. It features articles, puzzles, and celebrity interviews that teach children the value of showing kindness and respect to animals, the environment, and one another. Its emphasis on humane values, such as fairness, compassion, and responsibility, seek to encourage good character in children.

The KIND News is published monthly; September though May, by the National Association for Humane and Environmental Education, the youth education division of the Humane Society of the United States. It comes in bundles of 32 copies with a teacher’s guide. The KIND News is published at three reading levels: Primary (K-2), Jr. (grades 3-4), and Sr. (grades 5-6).

The St. Charles Humane Society sponsors classrooms to receive the KIND News. We feel it is of utmost importance to reach children at an early age if we wish to teach them about responsible pet ownership and have an environmentally friendly future. If you wish to help subsidize this program, or if you are interested in your child’s classroom receiving this publication, please call (636) 949-9918.
